About Chesterland

Chesterland, also known as Chester Township, is located 30 miles east of downtown Cleveland, in Geauga County, and is the second largest township in the county. By nature of its elevation, 1.29 feet above sea level, and close proximity to Lake Erie, Chesterland is in the heart of the Snow Belt. In Chesterland, there are over 150 miles of road, and residents receive their drinking water from individual water wells.

Established in a grassroots fashion 1801, the governing board has consisted of three Trustees and a Fiscal Officer since 1804. These positions are all elected for four terms by registered voters. Chesterland lies entirely in the West Geauga school district and shares this district with neighboring Russell Township.  There are two elementary schools, one middle school, and West Geauga High School.

Entertaining activities for Chesterland residents include visiting the attractions of Geauga County.  The county offers a perfect blend of beautiful countryside, interesting culture, captivating history and unique shopping.  It is home to the country’s second largest Amish population and some of the world’s best maple syrup. Geauga features many golf courses and is known for the Great Geauga County Fair held over Labor Day weekend.  Other points of interest are Middlefield Cheese, Fowler’s Milling Company, Mary Yoder’s Amish Country Kitchen and the Alpine Ski Valley, to name a few.
